Transport: Frontline places the audience at the heart of a war zone and humanitarian crisis, where, through the lens of a war photographer, they become an active witness to unfolding events. The camera is not merely a tool for documentation—it is a symbol of perspective, responsibility, and moral reflection. Each image captured carries the weight of choices made and consequences endured.
Like war photography itself, the performance probes the limits of representation: when does an image open space for empathy, and when does it slip into the aestheticization of suffering? How do the media shape our perception of conflict?
The performance invites deep reflection on the role of the individual in a world governed by moral dilemmas, urging an active confrontation with systems of violence that we perpetuate—whether knowingly or through silence. In a time when the line between testimony and sensationalism is increasingly blurred, Transport: Frontline provides a space to reflect on responsibility, solidarity, and the power of the gaze.
With more than 56 armed conflicts ongoing worldwide, approximately 4.6% of the planet’s land directly affected, and nearly 200 journalists killed in the war in Gaza alone, these ethical questions become urgent: what does it mean to be human in a world where fundamental rights are not only violated but often forgotten?
Premiere: Eesti Noorsooteater, Estonia | April 27, 2025
I believe in the power of theatre to transcend feelings of helplessness and passive empathy, and to open a space for necessary dialogue about our shared responsibility. In a world where truth is increasingly overshadowed by manipulation, art remains a space for reflection. In times of global crisis, theatre can no longer afford to remain silent.
